Foot Ringworm
![]()
Foot ringworm is more commonly known as tinea pedis; fungus associated with the feet. It’s passed on via contact with contaminated surfaces such as skin, footwear, socks, shower bases etc. Animals can also pass the fungus on if they are carrying it. Because tinea infections are contagious foot ringworm is easily picked up especially at communal change rooms, shower rooms and swimming pools. So how can you treat your tinea?
Unfortunately tinea of the feet often recurs so it’s important to treat it properly if you’ve caught it. Some people with mild cases have treated their condition by keeping their feet dry, using powder between their toes and a mild anti fungal cream.
Once you clear your foot ringworm taking care to dry between the toes will help prevent it. Tinea will only be made worse by wearing shoes and socks that do not breathe. Tight shoes, and shoes and socks made from man made materials cause the type of environment for fungus to flourish. Wear open style shoes such as sandals and woollen socks if needed.
